Dr. Matthew Wingert has been a cornerstone of Independence Animal Hospital since 1995, bringing his extensive expertise and passion for animal care to the team. Dr. Wingert is deeply committed to the welfare of his patients, reveling in the daily variety of cases and the profound opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of pets and their families. His professional joy is unmatched, whether he’s delivering a litter of puppies or saving a beloved pet’s life, moments that he finds incredibly rewarding. Dr. Wingert’s exemplary dedication to veterinary medicine earned him the prestigious 2002 Veterinary Humanitarian Award. He has cultivated specialized expertise in orthopedics and reproductive services, areas where he has made significant impacts.

Born in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Dr. Wingert is an esteemed alumnus of K-State University, where he honed the skills that would define his career. Outside the clinic, Dr. Wingert is an avid sports enthusiast, often found on the golf course or playing basketball. He cherishes the balance between his professional responsibilities and personal interests. Alongside his wife, Lisa, Dr. Wingert is a devoted father to eight wonderful children, and his family life is as fulfilling as his career. Dr. Wingert’s commitment to his community, both inside and outside the veterinary hospital, showcases his role as a dedicated caregiver and active community member.

Veterinarian

Although Dr. Skyler West is a recent graduate of Kansas State University’s veterinary program, he has been a part of the Independence Animal Hospital team since 2011. His journey into veterinary medicine began at a young age when he decided that saving the lives of family pets would be his life’s work. To gain firsthand experience, he started working at Independence Animal Hospital, immersing himself in veterinary practice. Dr. West completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri and earned a Master of Science in Nutrition from the University of Arkansas. He began his veterinary training at Ross University in St. Kitts & Nevis and completed his degree in 2022 at Kansas State University.

Dr. West’s professional interests include general surgery, orthopedics, and chiropractic care. His longstanding relationships with clients and deep bonds with colleagues at Independence Animal Hospital enrich his career, making his work deeply fulfilling. Residing in Independence, Missouri.

Dr. West lives with his wife and an assortment of pets including cats, dogs, and snakes. In his leisure time, he trains protection sport dogs, participates in off-roading with the Midwest Krawlers club, plays guitar, enjoys fly-fishing, and values spending quality time with friends.

Dr. Roger L. Becker, a proud graduate of Kansas State University, has dedicated over three decades to the field of veterinary medicine. His career has been a journey of passion and fulfillment, deeply enriching his life beyond the confines of a conventional job. “Practicing veterinary medicine has been more of a rewarding experience than a job,” Dr. Becker reflects. He treasures the ability to save countless pets over the years and values the deep relationships he has cultivated with his clients. These connections not only underscore his commitment to animal health but also enhance the personal gratification he derives from his work.

Dr. Becker has a pronounced interest in surgical cases, where he applies his extensive expertise and innovative techniques to improve the lives of animals. He is especially renowned for his exceptional skills in bulldog reproduction, an area where his expertise is frequently sought after.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Becker enjoys a rich personal life filled with activities that include spending cherished moments with his grandchildren, playing tennis, and golfing. These hobbies provide him with a balanced lifestyle, allowing him to recharge and return to his practice with renewed vigor and compassion.

JB Scott - DVM

JB Scott - DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. JB Scott’s journey into veterinary medicine began during his upbringing on a farm in Maryville, Missouri. After graduating from Maryville High School in 1984, he started working at the local veterinary clinic, an experience that solidified his passion for animal care. He pursued further education at Northwest Missouri State University for three years before being accepted into the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, where he graduated in 1991. After graduation, Dr. Scott honed his skills at Odessa Animal Clinic before joining Independence Animal Hospital in the spring of 2018.

Currently residing in Odessa, Missouri, Dr. Scott is a father to two children, Hannah and Hunter. His life outside the clinic is filled with activities that connect him back to nature and his roots. He is an avid hunter, often accompanied by his bird dog, Rusty.

Additionally, Dr. Scott enjoys fishing, golfing, and cooking, hobbies that allow him to relax and enjoy his free time fully. His deep-rooted connection to his community and his love for the outdoors are integral parts of his life that complement his professional dedication to veterinary medicine.
